How does Giorgos Gavrilos believe his resignation will impact discussions about accountability within SYRIZA?
**Interview with Giorgos Gavrilos on His Resignation from SYRIZA**
**Interviewer:** Giorgos, thank you for joining us today. You recently submitted your resignation from your role as a parliamentary representative for SYRIZA while remaining in the party. Can you share the key reasons that led to your decision?
**Giorgos Gavrilos:** Thank you for having me. The decision was not easy, but I felt it was necessary due to my dissatisfaction with some of the decisions made over the last two months within the party. I believe we are at a critical juncture, and there are serious concerns that need to be addressed for SYRIZA to regain its footing.
**Interviewer:** You mentioned in your statement that you met with party president Nikos Pappa to discuss your resignation. What was his response, and how do you see the leadership responding to the current challenges faced by SYRIZA?
**Giorgos Gavrilos:** Nikos was understanding and listened to my concerns. I believe the leadership recognizes the challenges we face, but we need to act decisively and communicate better with our supporters. This is an opportunity for us to reflect and make the necessary adjustments.
**Interviewer:** Reflecting on your decision, what message do you hope this sends to SYRIZA members and supporters? And do you think your resignation might prompt a larger discussion about accountability within the party?
**Giorgos Gavrilos:** I hope my resignation serves as a wake-up call to everyone in SYRIZA. It is critical that we hold ourselves accountable and prioritize the values that brought us together. If this leads to a broader debate about our direction and accountability, then I believe it could be a positive step forward.
**Interviewer:** Lastly, what do you anticipate the reactions from the general public and party members will be regarding your decision? Do you think this could create divisions or foster unity for the future?
**Giorgos Gavrilos:** That’s a great question. There will certainly be mixed reactions. Some may see this as a sign of weakness, while others might view it as a courageous stand for accountability. It could either deepen divisions or, conversely, foster unity if members rally around the concerns I’ve raised. I urge readers to consider how this reflects on the role of leadership in political parties. What does accountability mean to you, and how should party members respond in times of internal crisis?
