Dozens of people participate every day in The 8 million steps (eltrec) hoping to win the coveted prize. Although many fall by the wayside, several manage to fulfill their dream. However, there are few who can boast of having taken, not only one, but two million pesos after participating for the second time. In this select group is Diego, who admitted having signed up thanks to his daughter. After consecrating himself as the winner on Thursday night, he returned in the Tuesday afternoon edition and, again in the final, he took the opportunity to express an unexpected thanks.
After years of his friends and acquaintances telling him that he should sign up for a program that would test his knowledge, Diego considered that it was time to listen to them and sent the registration form to be part of one of the editions of The 8 million steps. Nevertheless, It was not pure will, but his decision was influenced by his 18-year-old daughter, who was responsible for convincing him.
During his participation, he agreed with all those who recommended him to try his luck, since –despite his extreme shyness – managed to advance firmly and safely to the end of the competition. Already located on the eighth step, he went head to head against Martín and, although they started the last round of questions tied, the bank manager was able to gain ground.
Finally, and after correctly answering a question about the world of entertainment and entertainment, he won the long-awaited million pesos. Grateful, he revealed that every penny would be dedicated to his daughter, as a gift to help her become independent.
“They always insisted that I sign up, but the one who convinced me was her and the million is for her to become independent. It’s for her, I don’t want anymore”, He expressed, unable to believe that, indeed, he would take the award home.
With the gigantic symbolic check in hand and already freed from some of the inhibitions that hindered his past participations, he risked more and assured that he would return the next day to test his luck once more. Unlike so many others who, despite succeeding once, are disqualified on the first steps on the second attempt, the participant found himself again among the finalists. After another close last round, this time against Graciela, he took the million again and even accepted the invitation to return a third time.
Before consecrating himself as the winner, he took the opportunity to share a deep reflection. After Guido Kaczka remarked that the second prize would also go to his daughter, Diego said: “She studies architecture, she is a good girl, I couldn’t ask for more”.
And he added: “Study at the public university, like me. All my knowledge I owe to public education. I am a son of public education and I work in public banking, with which I return what he gave me. I hope it’s always like this.”
