The treacherous crime occurred in May of last year in a home under construction in Villa del Parque, in the town of Villa Rumipal, and shocked the entire Calamuchita Valley.
At first, the news was that a man had been found lifeless, burned, inside a construction site, on the morning of Tuesday, May 10, 2022. Some bricklayers who were working on a nearby construction site saw him.
The investigation carried out by prosecutor Paula Bruera determined that the man had been beaten and then burned. The author’s purpose was to cover up the crime.
It was later learned that the victim was Hugo Argüello, 59 years old, from the town of Villa Ascasubi.
With that information, it didn’t take long to find a suspect, a young man who had been hired by Argüello.
The justice system ordered a raid in the Intendente Magnasco neighborhood of Río Tercero and arrested Javier Alejandro Godoy, who was 27 years old at the time. He was charged with murder the cause of the crime (when one kills to try to cover up a previous crime) and robbery.
The autopsy revealed that the victim died from a head injury and the investigation also showed that the accused robbed his victim of about 30 thousand pesos, a helmet, cell phone and a motorcycle.
For this fact, Godoy, 29 years old, was tried this Tuesday, October 10 in the Río Tercero Crime Chamber, in an abbreviated trial, with a popular jury, in which he was charged with homicide classified as “criminis causa.”
Godoy received a sentence of 18 years in prison for being the author of simple homicide and qualified robbery. He was also tried for two other acts: qualified minor injuries, threats, in a context of gender and domestic violence committed six days after the murder of his employer.
The court that tried Godoy was presided over by Guarania Barbero, accompanied by vocalists José Argüello and Marcelo Ramognino and the integration with popular juries.
Also in the room were the secretary Claudia Franco; the accused, defended by legal advisor Alfredo Brouwer de Koning; Alejandro Schulga -for the representation of the private complaint, and the chamber prosecutor Gustavo Martín.
