Dimitris Koutsoubas is visiting New York, where he met with the Consul General and the archbishop of America Elpidophoros, while he was also at Columbia University.

The General Secretary of the Central Committee of the KKE, during his tour in the USA, today visited Columbia University in New York, whose students – as well as dozens of other universities throughout the USA – are occupying against the genocide of the Palestinian people and the cooperation of the institutions them with the state of Israel, facing persecution and repression.
D. Koutsoubas made the following statement:
“We are here at Columbia to express our solidarity with the students who are fighting for freedom in Palestine, to stop this barbaric, unjust war, the genocide of the Palestinian people. It has turned, in essence, into a major student uprising that already embraces dozens of universities across the US and thousands of students are on the streets in solidarity, also in Europe.
In Greece, today, there is a large demonstration of student associations outside the American embassy in support of their fellow students here in New York, against the repression and authoritarianism that the government is trying to use, to suppress these righteous demonstrations. And of course we demand here and now that this war in the Middle East as a whole, especially in Gaza, in Palestine, stop the occupation of Palestinian lands by the state of Israel. For freedom in Palestine, on the 1967 borders and all the demands put by the Palestinian community, the Palestinian Authority around the world.
We are here in New York, in the heart of the USA, and we stand with students and struggling workers. We have already seen polls and measurements that show a huge increase in the support of the American people for Palestine compared to a few years ago, for solidarity with Palestine and of course denouncing the murder committed by the state – killer of Israel”.
Responding to a journalist’s question about whether the massiveness of the mobilizations is impressive, D. Koutsoubas pointed out:
“This is very important, it doesn’t surprise us, it fascinates us. We believe that this is how history progresses, this is how we will manage to stop the war and start another society, a happy life without the deaths of civilians, without the deaths of children, without massacres of our fellow human beings.”

Dimitris Koutsoubas met on Friday morning with the archbishop of America Elpidophoros as part of the visit of the KKE delegation to the USA.
The archbishop thanked the head of the Central Committee of the KKE for the visit, while he noted that “the values of peace, friendship of peoples, social equality and justice are common values”. He also referred to “the experience of the church in the USA, where there is a complete separation of church-state and communities instead of parishes”, noting that “these could also be useful in the case of Greece”.
D. Koutsoubas noted that “From a position of principle, the KKE is in favor of the separation of the church-state, without one interfering in the “house” of the other”, while he pointed out the “need not to exploit religious sentiment by parties, especially by those with racist and fascist perceptions but now also by some of the supposed “progressive space””, noting that “the KKE denounces such phenomena”.
He also reiterated “the need to support Greek language education and culture, especially the Greek diaspora, which is now 3rd and 4th generation, to know the history of Greece”.

The General Secretary of the Central Committee of the KKE had, according to relevant information, “a cordial meeting with Chris Smalls, president of the Amazon Labor Union and the members of the Union’s administration, who welcomed him with applause and slogans at noon Friday at the Association’s Staten Island offices.”
The party’s delegation also includes Zisis Lymberidis, member of the KKE Central Committee Secretariat, Lefteris Nikolaou-Alavanos, KKE MEP and re-candidate, and Kostas Gouliamos, also the Party’s MEP candidate. Claudia Ashterman, Arlene Kingston, Tristan Lion Dutchin, Danielle Hayden, Gerald Bryson, Jordan Glowers, Derick Palmer, Rinna Cummings and Mena Shuler also participated on behalf of the Association’s Management.
At the meeting, the party delegation had the opportunity to be informed “about the action of the union, the war they are receiving from the employer in their constant fight for wages and against the terrible intensification, in “facilities built like prisons without even ventilation”, without even entitlement to sick leave in excess of 10 hours per year”.
Amazon workers collectively briefed on the union’s “never-ending fight for rights” against a company like Amazon, in an effort to organize even more workers in the union – which has more than 8,000 members at the facility alone of JFK airport – and the difficulties they face in a company that “has an official policy to change policy whenever it wants”, with constant bans on their action”.
He also dealt with “the war in Palestine, the great struggles being developed in the US by workers and students against the genocide of the Palestinian people and the support provided by large business groups, such as Amazon, to the state of Israel.”
D. Koutsoubas expressed the “undivided solidarity of the KKE towards the Amazon union”, stressing that “the pioneering action it is developing, in very difficult conditions, shows the way of the organized assertion of workers all over the world”.
The visit of the KKE delegation to New York continues tomorrow, Saturday, with a tour by Dimitris Koutsoubas to shops of Greek expatriates in Astoria and a meeting with the Board of Directors of the Center for Greek Culture. At 19.00 he will speak at a meeting of the New York KKE Friends Club.
