He Xiaopeng:The (China’s new energy) market has begun to enter the knockout round. Facing this fierce knockout competition, we firmly believe that we must do a good job in technological innovation, we must ensure that there are no weaknesses in corporate operations, and we must truly meet customer needs in order to achieve success. What Xiaopeng has to do is to seize opportunities, strengthen technological innovation, and strive to launch better technologies and high-quality products in batches and bring them to the world, so that Chinese innovation can go global.
Reporter: In July 2023, Xpeng Motors announced the news of accepting investment and cooperation from Germany’s Volkswagen (VW).
He Xiaopeng:We believe that this cooperation has a time-honored significance for China’s automobile industry. During the cooperation, Volkswagen can make use of Xpeng Motors’ industry-leading smart assisted driving, smart cockpit and other technologies; while we have the opportunity to learn from Volkswagen’s world-class supply chain management, marketing channels and international experience.
I have also communicated with Ralf (Volkswagen Group China CEO Ralf Brandstätter) many times. We believe that Xpeng and Volkswagen have complementary advantages. Both parties have very pure ideas about technology, and their vision for the future global electric vehicle industry is also very consistent. .
Reporter: What are Xpeng Motors’ plans to expand overseas markets?
He Xiaopeng:At the Munich Auto Show in 2023, we announced our plans to enter European markets such as Germany and France in 2024. At the same time, our right-hand drive model will be launched in the second half of 2024, opening the door for us to enter Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Macau. Reporter: Xpeng Motors is also developing electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL) called “flying cars”. How do you see the business prospects?
He Xiaopeng:The electrification and intelligence innovations brought about by the rapid development of the new energy vehicle industry are realizing cross-industry applications in the low-altitude economy. Xpeng Huitian, an ecological company of Xpeng Motors, has been deeply involved in the field of low-altitude flying cars for nearly ten years and has taken the lead in promoting the commercialization of low-altitude flying cars. We hope to use the scale supply chain logic of automobiles based on the technological changes in new energy to launch million-dollar flying cars and accelerate the development of the industry.
