Health | A new day to donate blood in Aubagne

2023-08-01 17:02:42

We need 700 pockets a day, these days we are on an average of 400.” This is the clear observation of Didier Marcellesi, departmental communication manager for the French Blood Establishment (EFS). The summer period is traditionally calmer for associations and the EFS, in particular with departures on vacation or the closure of schools and universities, preponderant in the collections. As a result, the ESF organizes two days of collection instead of one in the room of the Bras d’or, and the second takes place today.

The collection starts at 3 p.m., but some start “much earlier!” laughs a member of the volunteer team. In the room, five volunteers, two doctors and three nurses – these five are employees of the EFS. During the day yesterday, no less than 80 appointments were made, over a hundred slots maximum. “It leaves the possibility for those who have not made an appointment online to possibly be able to donate their blood”, explains Didier Marcellesi.

We followed the course: welcomed by administrative agents, we were then invited to complete a questionnaire specifying our state of health. Attention, certain criteria can prevent a blood donation: recent tattoo, person over 70 years old or sexual relationship with more than one partner during the last four months. “Generally 80% of people can donate blood“, specifies Didier Marcellesi. After a brief interview with a doctor in charge of taking our blood pressure, we are ready to give: 480 ml will be taken from you before the traditional snack that awaits you to get back on your feet. The reserves are low, consider giving!
