Health Canada is recalling these brands of fresh fruits because they may contain salmonella

Health Canada has recalled various brands of fresh fruit due to possible salmonella contamination.

The agency noted that a number of brands were recalled, including Central Foods Co., Fresh Start Foods, GFS, Kitchen Essential, and Ready-Set-Serve by Markon.

The recall notice, issued Sunday, also includes unbranded products sold by Fresh Start Foods in Richmond, British Columbia.

The notice said the fruits were sold in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and “possibly in other provinces and territories.”

It also advises consumers to check to see if they have purchased these products and dispose of them if they have, and to contact their healthcare provider if they believe they have become ill from eating a recalled product.

The notice comes just weeks after the Canadian Food Inspection Agency recalled cantaloupes contaminated with salmonella.

An unspecified number of people have been reported to have become ill after eating Malichita cantaloupe.

“Foods infected with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, but they can still make you sick,” warns the latest notice from Health Canada.

The notice added: “Young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems may develop a serious and sometimes fatal infection. Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Long-term complications include severe arthritis.” .
