About 10 communities in Canóvanas could be affected after the Department of Health ordered the closure of the water supply of the Cubuy filter plant, for the next seven days, due to apparent contamination, reported the mayor of that municipality, Lorna Soto Villanueva. it’s a statement.

The municipal leader indicated that, for the last 48 hours, the municipality of Canóvanas has worked together with the Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA) and the Department of Health to address the situation, which she described as critical.

“Water trucks have been distributed in various sectors to meet the needs of the community in general, as well as in schools, bedridden people and senior centers in the affected area, among others. In response to the Department of Health’s notification a few minutes ago, I have activated incident management teams under the Municipal Emergency Operations Center to effectively coordinate and monitor all operations related to this emergency. The health and safety of our residents is the top priority, and the Municipality of Canóvanas will continue to work tirelessly to mitigate the effects of this situation and provide assistance to those who are affected,” Soto Villanueva said in written statements.

He added that “residents are urged to follow the recommendations and guidelines issued by local authorities to ensure their well-being during this critical period.”

Soto Villanueva indicated that he has been in communication with the president of the AAA, Doriel Pagán Crespo and other officials in the region. However, the statement issued by the mayor does not reveal what the source of contamination is, nor further details about it. On the other hand, beyond reporting that work was being carried out at the Cubuy plant, and that the Department of Health was carrying out sampling in the raw water intake of said plant, the AAA had not reported any irregular situation on its social networks. in the aforementioned installation.
