Juan, the father of Pablo Córdoba, the volunteer soldier found dead with two shots to the head while on guard duty at the 16th Artillery Group in Zapala, starred in an emotional and heartbreaking moment during the act of swearing in to the Army flag. There, he asked permission from the high command and read a handwritten speech in which he referred to the investigation and reinforced the family’s hypothesis that the death of the 21-year-old was not a suicide. “I come to definitively banish the idea of suicide,” he said.
In front of the entire regiment, local authorities and residents of Zapala, Juan and his wife Natalia Uribe (Pablo’s mother) stood firmly. She holding up the image of her dead son, he with a paper containing the words he had prepared.
“I stand here with all the pain of a father to tell you that our son was killed inside this barracks, in the line of duty as a soldier,” These were some of the first sentences that Juan read without the help of microphones, but they resounded on the faces of those present.
