Hearthstone director is leaving Blizzard

Hearthstone director August Dean Ayala has officially announced his departure from Blizzard, after spending 11 years within the company’s walls.

August Dean Ayala stated through his official Twitter account that last August 16 was his last day with the company, but he has not yet revealed his next destination, but his Twitter profile states that he is currently unemployed.

August Dean Ayala stated:

After 11 years, I am leaving Blizzard. Hearthstone is an incredible game, and playing such a small part in creating it is an honor I will never forget. Thanks to all the players and a special thanks to my fellow game creators, I’m proud of everything we’ve done together.

Ayala went on to thank countless team members past and present along with the Hearthstone community and friends they’ve made over his 11 years with Blizzard.

Ayala joined the company as a Quality Assurance Analyst in 2011 before moving into the role of game designer with Hearthstone in 2014. Within two years Ayala became the lead game designer and in February of this year he became the game director.

Hearthstone has been going strong and popular since 2014 but has faced some criticism over its monetization model in recent months and years with the likes of selling a single card for $25, and in an effort to win back some players who left the game away, Blizzard recently offered up to 150 bundles worth About $200 to get back into the game.
