Erling Haaland and Kyle Walker had a heated argument with Gunners assistant coach Nicolas Jover after Manchester City’s defeat against Arsenal FC (0-1) in the top game of the Premier League.
As footage from Sky Sport UK clearly shows, Walker refused to shake hands with Jover when he ran alongside Haaland towards the players’ tunnel a few minutes after the final whistle. The England international and Mikel Arteta’s assistant coach know each other from their time together at the Skyblues (2019 to 2021).
A discussion full of gestures followed, in which Haaland finally joined in. Ultimately, even the stewards and players had to separate the three brawlers from each other. They still shouted at each other over the heads of the mediators.
Haaland approached Jover to confront him, but was held back by, among others, injured Arsenal professional Bukayo Saka.
At the subsequent press conference, City coach Pep Guardiola was asked about the incident. However, the 52-year-old did not go into detail. “I know what happened, but I don’t want to say anything. They know,” he said, shaking his head.
Arteta, in turn, claimed that he did not see the incident.
Manchester City: A novelty after five years
For Manchester City, the defeat in London was the second in a row in the Premier League. The last time that happened was around five years ago.
This means third place in the table, two points behind leaders Tottenham Hotspur (20). Arsenal FC is also in second place with 20 points.
