Beijing: Heavy rains that started on June 1 in China are reported to be continuing. Hundreds of thousands of people have been evacuated from the area, the official Xinhua news agency reported. Central China has so far evacuated 286,000 people. More than 2,700 homes were destroyed in Hunan province. Ten people have so far died and three are missing in the heavy rains, the report said.

The provincial government said in a statement that water levels in rivers and lakes in Hunan province were rising significantly as heavy rains continued. This is the first time that such rainfall has been recorded in the region. 1.79 million people are affected.

However, she said the government has taken all necessary steps to prevent disasters in a timely manner. At the same time, experts said that climate change caused by human intervention caused heavy rainfall and distress.

Floods are common in central and southern China. Last year, China experienced the worst flooding in a decade. More than 300 people were killed in the floods.
