2024-03-31 16:33:00

The Hecate G1500 Bar is one of Edifier’s recent launches in Brazil. We are talking about a new soundbar that complements the G1500 line of gaming audio devices, which also includes other portable speakers.

Here we have a unit of the product, so we can tell you what it offers in detail. Is her experience satisfactory? What is the sound quality of this device and what are the differences? Let’s find out in this analysis.

Design and construction

The G1500 Bar comes with a trapezoid shape that appears to be quite compact. Edifier brought versions of the product in Brazil in black and pink, and here we have a unit of this second shade.

It has a maximum width of 41 cm and a thickness of just 6.5 cm, the same dimension as the height. Furthermore, the total weight is no more than 570 grams, which makes it light enough if you need to take it on a trip or transport it to another environment.

The front has buttons to increase or decrease the volume; one that is used to turn on and off, or change the type of input; and one to change the sound mode. They are centered at the top. Below, there is a customizable LED strip that goes from end to end, an important point for the gaming public. In the middle, there is the grille that protects the speakers.

At the top, we only have the brand logo. At the back, there is the fixed output for the 1.3 cm USB cable and the connectors for external headphones and the 30 cm removable microphone, which are already included in the product packaging, as well as the user manuals.

Connectivity and app

The Edifier gamer soundbar can be connected to the device in two ways. One of them is through the USB-A port, which has double function, as it is also the accessory’s power source. The other occurs through Bluetooth 5.3, if you want to pair with a device that does not support an external USB audio device.

The problem is that, even with a wireless connection, the G1500 Bar requires you to connect the USB cable to some power source. This equipment does not have an internal battery. In other words, it is no longer completely portable and does not completely eliminate the need for wires.

Although the soundbar works in the so-called plug and playthe manufacturer also offers the Hecate Gaming Center software for computers, which allows you to identify the model and carry out some customizations.

We successfully tested connecting the G1500 Bar to a notebook, via cable or Bluetooth, and to the TV wirelessly, but it was not possible to use it on the Xbox. Although the console’s USB port powers the box, it is not recognized as an audio device by the video game.

You can switch the color displayed on the LED, or configure the type of transition between shades. You can also choose the volume percentage for both the sound output and the microphone.

We miss some more advanced options here, such as an equalizer to customize the bass, mids and treble according to your preference, or even choose a customized audio profile. Not to mention that the software interface is not fully translated.

Sound and microphone quality

The Hecate G1500 Bar comes equipped with two speakers and two passive bass radiators in its sound package. This set promises to deliver a virtual integrated 7.1 system, via software, and a DSP sound card chip.

In practice, the combination was designed for a greater immersive experience for the gamer. The simulation of a 7.1 channel system works well, and you can get a better sense of where your opponent’s footsteps are coming from in the game, or you will sense the audio of the direction they are coming from efficiently. Very relevant items during the game.

The soundbar has a sound of 5 W RMS, made up of 2.5 W on each side. A power that may seem low, but in practice has a satisfactory maximum volume that does not generate distortion. The frequency response provided ranges from 120 Hz to 20 kHz.

Overall, we have a very balanced and clean sound. By selecting Game Mode from the pre-selected profiles, you’ll experience the loudest, most immersive audio. The bass is just right, while the midrange is clear and the treble is not shrill.

But this soundbar isn’t just about games, is it? You will also have two other pre-selected profiles to use in other situations, outside of games. Film Mode pleases and delivers vocals with good clarity. Essential for understanding the dialogues of any feature film or series you are watching.

In turn, Music Mode appears to be the weakest of the trio. Even though it doesn’t disappoint, in songs with a predominance of lower frequencies, you may miss thicker bass. And this is mainly where you’ll miss a dedicated equalizer.

As we mentioned before, the G1500 Bar has a removable microphone, which can be plugged into the back of the equipment. It is mainly for gamers who want to stream games, without the need for headphones, or for video conferences.

What about its quality? If you are just a few centimeters away from it, the sound pickup is clean and powerful. As you move away, your voice starts to sound a little metallic. But there is an explanation for this to happen.

To avoid generating audio feedback, Edifier applied very aggressive ambient noise cancellation. In practice, calls are made without the sound output disturbing the input. A positive and very efficient point of the soundbar. However, your voice starts to suffer from the effect from a medium distance to the microphone.

Final considerations

The Hecate G1500 Bar is a compact and lightweight soundbar, which hits the points focused on the gaming audience. We are talking about the presence of customizable RGB LEDs, Game Mode for immersive audio and a microphone to facilitate interactions during games.

The device also offers a compact and lightweight design, easy to transport to another location. Not to mention the flexibility to connect to another device, whether via USB cable or via Bluetooth.

The sound quality is pleasing overall, with decent power and a good balance of frequencies, although the bass is a little below ideal. Separating the sound profiles by modes is another satisfactory factor, but there could be another customizable option.

Ambient noise cancellation for the microphone is another item that works efficiently and allows use during voice or video calls, without the sound from the speaker interfering with audio capture.

As main negative points, we highlight the absence of an integrated battery. This forces the user to always have a socket nearby or a USB input capable of supplying power to this soundbar. In other words, this model loses its ability to be very portable.

The list also includes the microphone quality, which could be a little better; and the very limited software for product management. At least, this last case can still be corrected in future updates to the official program.

Lack of integrated batteryLimited softwareMicrophone quality could be better

Edifier launched the Hecate G1500 Bar in Brazil for a suggested price of R$349. A value that offers good value for money to consumers who want a gaming product with satisfactory quality without hurting their pocket.

This model’s main rival on the market is the Lenovo Soundbar TS33-B. It also offers a compact design and a strip with LEDs in the lower portion, in addition to practically the same sound power. The difference is in the presence of an auxiliary audio input, to play music or connect to other devices with a P2 standard cable.
