Hein Schumacher appointed CEO

Unilever announced on Monday the appointment of Hein Schumacher as chief executive from July 1, 2023, replacing Alan Jope.

Hein Schumacher, 51 ans, a joined the consumer goods giant last October to take up the post of non-executive director and is currently the director of Dutch dairy company FrieslandCampina.

The maker of Dove soap and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream said in September that its current chief executive Alan Jope planned to leave the group at the end of 2023. Hein Schumacher, formerly at Royal Ahold, also worked for HJ Heinz for a decade in the United States, Europe and Asia.

The activist investor Nelson PeltzCEO and co-founder of Trian, said he strongly supports the appointment of Hein Schumacher and looks forward “to working closely with him to create significant sustainable value for stakeholders”. Nelson Peltz joined the Unilever board in July.
