A helicopter carrying foreign tourists crashed near Mount Everest in Nepal, killing at least five people while another person on board is still missing.
According to international media reports, 5 Mexican citizens and a Nepali pilot were on board the helicopter and it went missing yesterday.
According to the report, the helicopter has crashed in the area of Lamajura, the chief government administrator of the area, Basanta Bhattarai, said that rescue workers have recovered the bodies of five people and are searching for the sixth person.
The plane was bringing tourists back to Nepal’s capital Kathmandu in the morning after a tour of the world’s highest peak.
Nepalese authorities have said that weather conditions forced a change in the helicopter’s flight path. It is common for flights to be delayed and rerouted during heavy monsoon rains.
The incident comes nearly six months after the plane crash in western Nepal, which killed all 72 people on board. The Himalayan country has some of the most remote and difficult runways in the world, covered with snow-capped peaks that are a challenge even for accomplished pilots.
In addition, the European Union has barred all Nepalese aircraft from its airspace due to security concerns.
