More and more abandoned animals and, on the other hand, ever more rare financial income: the Ville-Pommeroeul shelter, in the Bernissart entity, Au Bonheur Animal, is launching a new SOS.

Thursday, a young mare called “the chip” and arrived a month ago was found with a major cut, just above the hoof. “The animal was in a pool of blood”, testify the trainers who cannot explain this accident. “She was in her paddock at the time. We searched the whole room and found nothing. We don’t know what happened.”

An invoice of 3,500 to 5,000€

Still, the mare had to be taken to the veterinary clinic and operated on. Result: a lot of stress for the shelter team who are worried regarding the health of the animal and a new bill which should cost between 3,500 and 5,000€. The mare must indeed stay two weeks under antibiotics and be hospitalized. “The news is rather good on the side of his injury, however impressive”, testifies the president of the refuge, Maud Derycke. “On the other hand, they detected another pathology, which has nothing to do with the accident and which puts his life in danger. We cross fingers “.

The president does not hide her state of mind. “It’s very stressful! “, she acknowledges. “Especially since you have to fight constantly for finances. We try to tighten our belts as much as possible. Of course, we cannot let go of these animals that rely on us. We are hanging on for them, but I admit that it is difficult”.

From 150 to 200 animals welcomed

The shelter is therefore launching a new appeal for financial or food donations. He also created a raffle at €2 per box to win a smartphone. Those who wish can also sponsor one of the 150 animals currently hosted by the shelter at the rate of €10 per month.
