Cat Nala no longer understands the world. For eight years she lived happily ever after with her owners in Florida. She loved being petted and playing with the family dog. But now she’s suddenly sitting in a small cage in the animal shelter “Humane Society of Broward County“. The reason: her owners bought a kitten that Nala didn’t get along with very well.
It’s been a few weeks since Nala’s saddest day in her life. In February, her owners brought her to the Florida animal shelter and said goodbye to their faithful pet after eight years together. A few weeks ago they had acquired a baby cat, which had apparently caused a lot of trouble in the household. Nala just couldn’t warm to the addition to the family, reports “Newsweek“.
Nala is becoming more and more shy
However, instead of giving the kitten back up, the owners decided to take Nala to the shelter. This causes absolute incomprehension among many animal lovers. The nurses at the Florida facility now shared the sad case on their TikTok channel and advertised the velvet paw. In the post they write that Nala loves treats and demands them loudly.
When the eight-year-old cat arrived at the shelter, she was stunned by her new surroundings. Despite this, the keepers could easily approach her and play with her and pet her. But now the cat is becoming more and more shy. She hides in her cage and turns her head away as soon as visitors come into the room. Staff are now hoping their cute TikTok video will help prompt adoption.
Get cats used to each other slowly
They also point out that strange cats must always be carefully accustomed to one another. If owners get a second velvet paw, the animals should first be spatially separated from each other and only allowed to be together for a few minutes a day. This way they can slowly build up tolerance for each other and get used to their new roommate. Apparently, Nala’s owners didn’t do that and apparently completely overwhelmed their pet with the baby cat.
