Following the recent earthquake which struck Al Haouz and surrounding areas, the Kingdom, under the leadership of the King, is mobilizing to help the victims and rebuild the affected areas. In order to facilitate the management and distribution of aid, a special fund has been set up by Bank Al-Maghrib, in collaboration with government authorities.

The earthquake, with a magnitude of 7 degrees, caused extensive material and human damage in several areas of the Marrakech region, notably Al Haouz. Residents lost their homes, their belongings and, unfortunately, some lost their lives. For the moment the number of victims of the earthquake stands at 2122 dead and 2421 injured (provisional toll).

Faced with this disaster, Morocco calls for both national and international solidarity to support the victims.

The special fund, opened with Bank Al-Maghrib, allows people inside Morocco to make donations in different ways. Thus, citizens can make cash payments, bank transfers or mobile phone payments via banking applications. In addition, Bank Al-Maghrib branches and agencies are also available to collect donations.

People wishing to make a donation from abroad can do so by check payable to the public accountant or by bank transfer. Required information, such as RIB and SWIFT code, is available to facilitate transactions.

According to authorities, the funds collected will be used to provide emergency assistance to victims, including temporary shelter, food, drinking water, medical care and other basic necessities. In addition, part of the funds will be allocated to rebuild damaged infrastructure, such as roads, schools and hospitals.

In a press release published this Sunday afternoon, the government said it was working closely with local authorities to ensure that aid reaches the people who need it most. Teams of volunteers, first responders and medical professionals have been deployed to affected areas to provide support and expertise.
