Ajax won 2-4 at Heracles Almelo on Saturday, partly thanks to two goals from Brian Brobbey. Jordan Henderson was not yet in the match selection of the Amsterdam team and saw the Eredivisie match in Erve Asito from the stands.
The 33-year-old Henderson could have played for the first time since his transfer from Saudi Arabia. He has received his work permit. “In consultation with the medical staff and himself, we came to the conclusion not to do it. The risk is too great that he will get injured anyway,” trainer John van ‘t Schip explained in advance.
Next weekend, Henderson can still make his debut for Ajax, which awaits the top match against PSV in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
The victory means that Ajax is still undefeated in the Eredivisie under the leadership of Van ‘t Schip, who started as final manager on the bench at the beginning of November. The Amsterdam team is now equal on points with AZ, which will visit SC Heerenveen on Sunday.

Bergwijn and Akpom are missing
In addition to Henderson, Van ‘t Schip also missed many other players against Heracles. Steven Bergwijn was not fit, so Steven Berghuis wore the captain’s armband. Chuba Akpom and Josip Sutalo were also unavailable.
With a young defense, Ajax quickly looked vulnerable. After a deep pass from German defender Jannes Wieckhoff, Jizz Hornkamp, who simply ran away from the back of Jorrel Hato, was able to head towards the Ajax goal unhindered. Face to face with Diant Ramaj he did not fail: 1-0.
Brian Brobbey once again took Ajax by the hand. After a pass from Benjamin Tahirovic, the striker turned away from Stijn Bultman and shot hard and high (1-1). Shortly before half time, Brobbey was close to scoring a second goal, but he shot into the side netting.

Brobbey has thirteen hits
In the second half Ajax still took distance. Steven Berghuis scored, just like last week against RKC Waalwijk. Brobbey then scored the third Amsterdam goal, bringing him to thirteen goals this Eredivisie season.
The striker is fourth on the top scorers list, behind Vangelis Pavlidis (19), Santiago Giménez (19) and Luuk de Jong (17).
A large lead is no guarantee of a good result for Ajax this season, not even against Heracles. Mario Engels pushed Devyne Rensch aside with a light push and scored via Hato after an hour of play (2-3). Icelander Kristian Hlynsson secured the win for Ajax in the 84th minute.
