ALGIERS – The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohamed Abdelhafid Henni, received on Sunday in Algiers a delegation from the Confederation of Algerian Industrialists and Producers (CIPA), to listen to the concerns related mainly to the livestock farming sector. ostriches, specifies a press release from the ministry.
The delegation, led by Abdelwahab Ziani, president of the CIPA, included representatives of the National Association of Ostrich Professionals and Breeders, under the organization, according to the same source.
This meeting, which was held in the presence of executives from the Ministry and the Director General of the Technical Institute for Livestock (ITELV), is part of “the participatory approach to which the sector attaches great importance through addressing the concerns of all national bodies and organisations”.
During this meeting, the members of the delegation gave exhaustive presentations on the economic importance of the “ostrich farming” sector.
On this occasion, Mr. Henni recalled the commitment of the sector to develop the ostrich farming sector in Algeria in view of its economic advantages, in particular the possibility of using most of its parts (meat, skins, fats), besides eggs.
He insisted, in this regard, on “the pioneering experience of the sector in terms of scientific research, thanks to the strengthening of the role of the Institutes and Centers of training and research relating thereto which contribute effectively to the promotion of agriculture , breeding, production of red meat, as well as support for all breeders, through training at the Technical Institute of Livestock (ITELV) which has previous experience in breeding of ostriches and in the guarantee of health coverage for the animals”.
The ministry assured that the proposals made during this meeting will be taken into consideration, affirming that investors in ostrich farming will benefit from all the necessary facilities, the objective being to strengthen food security.
Emphasis was also placed on the possibility of marketing camel milk in the northern wilayas.
Finally, Mr. Henni called for the organization of a study day on the milk sector and agricultural insurance, the statement concludes.
