Gyeonggi Yangju Police Station announced on the 18th that it had booked former CEO Heo without detention on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act.

Heo is accused of spreading false facts during the 20th presidential election that he was the adopted child of former Samsung Group Chairman Lee Byung-cheol or a policy aide to former President Park Chung-hee.

Former candidate Huh was previously sentenced to one year and six months in prison by the Supreme Court for spreading false information in 2008. The remarks that were identified as false this time were also found to be false at the time of the trial.

A police official explained, “As the content has already been decided by the Supreme Court, it is expected that it will be sent to the court within this week.”

On the other hand, it is reported that former candidate Huh’s side has recently requested a retrial, raising objections to the 2008 ruling.
