Man of the evening: Tim Pieters, who scored twice (16th and 22nd) – and not only led his team to victory, but also made his roommates in the student dormitory an incredible 11,265 euros richer!

Please what?

Background: Pieter’s roommates had bet on a goal from the 22-year-old and the progress of the blatant outsider! This is reported by the Dutch portal “Sportnieuws”.

Accordingly, the boys bet 15 euros on this combination and, with odds of 751, ended up collecting 11,265 euros!

Double packer Pieters revealed with a smile to “ESPN” following the game: “There are people who have bet. I said to them, ‘This can happen tonight.’ So I think we’re in for a nice holiday.”

For Ajax, however, the cup exit is the next setback this season! In the honorary division, coach John van ‘t Schip’s (59) team got off to a historically bad start. Ajax is now in fifth place. The gap to leaders PSV Eindhoven is already 23 points.

Against Hercules, Brian Brobbey and Chuba Akpommit had evened out the 2-0 deficit late on with their goals in the 83rd and 88th minutes, but Mats Grotenbreg made the sensation perfect for the fourth division club with the winning goal in stoppage time.

“That should not have happened. We are going through a very difficult season. But we have to keep working and get everything back on track,” said Ajax assistant coach Michael Valkanis following the game. He represented van ‘t Schip, who is in Australia for his son’s wedding.

Pieters & Co., on the other hand, should be all the more pleased that Ajax is currently not on track – both from a sporting and financial perspective.
