Those who would like to live in a place where you can get by using only bitcoin, look no further. In Lugano, Switzerland, you no longer need fiat money to shop or pay for parking.
A Plan ₿ foundation recently tweeted its new map showing the hundreds of merchants in the city of Lugano that accept bitcoin. “Now you can live in Lugano with only bitcoin!” said the tweet. “Find everything you need to enjoy your stay in Lugano with the help of the map showing all Plan ₿ dealers in Lugano.”
Plan ₿ is a city initiative designed in collaboration with Tether to attract money, skilled professionals and opportunities to Lugano. Part of this plan was Lugano making bitcoin de facto legal tender, which was announced in March 2022.
After that, the Plan ₿ summer school offered an educational opportunity for those who want to learn more about bitcoin, which took place in July 2022. The school featured expert speakers, including the likes of Blockstream CEO Adam Back.
Most recently, the Plan ₿ foundation partnered with GoCrypto to partner with several merchants that accept bitcoin, including McDonald’s and various art galleries. At the time, the foundation predicted it would serve more than 2,500 clients with bitcoin by the end of the year.
The Plan ₿ foundation recently confirmed on Twitter that visitors and residents alike can pay with bitcoin for food, drinks, art, fashion, jewelry, cars, watches, tattoos, real estate, and settle their tax debts with bitcoin.
As the bitcoin ecosystem grows, different jurisdictions are providing more options for the public to pay with bitcoin. This is demonstrated by examples such as Lugano, Madeira, Bitcoin Beach in Salvador and many more. Although bitcoin adoption is still in its infancy, such developments serve both as a testing solution and to promote greater adoption.
