Here’s how to upload an instant video message on WhatsApp

MEXICO CITY.- WhatsApp is always in constant evolution to improve the user experience with different tools. In fact, it will soon have an innovative function that allows send instant videos.

This feature is not new, it was removed from the app a few months ago and it seems that it will return with some changes that you did not know about.

What happened to WhatsApp instant videos?

In July 2023, the application launched video messages or instant video messages. These made it possible to respond in chats using a fun and short audiovisual format.

The clips were approximately 1 minute long and, according to WhatsApp’s official blog, were designed to emulate classic voice notes. To use them, it was necessary to press the microphone button and the function would immediately be activated. However, complaints soon arose among users.

The first thing that was questioned was the size of the video messages, which were sent as files and took up a lot of space in the storage memory. The fact that they had to be sent with the same button as voice notes was also criticised, since it was confusing to manage both functions and, in turn, made conversations less fluid.

How to send instant video messages on WhatsApp?

At the end of 2023, this feature underwent a couple of modifications: now it had to be activated manually from “Settings”, then in “Chats” and finally in “Instant Video Messages”.

As such, they never disappeared, but were hidden on some iOS and Android devices. Everything indicates that they will be available again very soon, as the same application sent a notice from its official account: At the moment, only some users can activate video messages, although it is expected that in the coming weeks they will reach more people.

Go to WhatsApp and select the three dots in the upper corner of the screen. Go to “Settings.” Press the “Chats” section. Activate the “Instant video messages” button, located under “Keep chats archived.”

Finally, one of its advantages is that you can control the audio. Videos will automatically play muted only when you open a chat, and by tapping on them you will hear the sound.
