Tottenham’s English striker Heung-Min Son scored two goals, leading the South Korean national team to a clear victory over China 3-0 in Shenzhen in front of more than 40,000 spectators as part of the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup and the 2027 Asian Cup.
The South Korean team raised its score to 6 points from two wins at the start of the qualifiers, at the top of Group C, after defeating Singapore 5-0 in its first match, compared to 3 points for Thailand, which is in second place and also won today over Singapore 3-1, and 3 points for China.
Son opened the scoring after 11 minutes, following a penalty kick, after obstructing Wolverhampton English striker Hwang Hee-chan inside the area.
The Korean team’s advantage continued, and Son shot a powerful shot that was blocked by the Chinese goalkeeper, while his teammate Cho Joo-sung’s header went over the crossbar.
In the final seconds of the first half, Son rose to kick a corner kick and followed it into the net, strengthening his country’s lead.
Young Sung-hyun concluded the scoring with a header three minutes before the end of the match, following a free kick raised by Son.
South Korea, which is currently coached by German Jurgen Klinsmann since last February, reached the second round in the World Cup in Qatar late last year, before losing to Brazil.
