Hezbollah: Fired over 100 Katyusha rockets against Israeli positions – VIDEO – 2024-03-12 21:03:47

Lebanon’s Shiite movement Hezbollah said today it had fired “over 100 Katyusha rockets” at Israeli military positions.

In a statement, the pro-Iranian movement clarified that it fired “more than a hundred Katyusha-type rockets” at two of its military bases Israel in the occupied Golan Heights “in retaliation for Israeli attacks against our people, villages and towns, most recently near the town of Baalbek, where a civilian was killed.”

At least one civilian was killed and several others injured in four Israeli airstrikes on the eastern Lebanese city of Baalbek late on Monday, two security sources and the city’s governor, Bashir Hader, told Reuters.

One of the strikes targeted the southern entrance to Baalbek, located at least 2 kilometers from an archaeological site, security sources said.

The other three strikes occurred near the town of Taraja, located 20 kilometers west of Baalbek, according to the same.

Israel’s strikes have been mostly confined to Lebanon’s southern border region, although in recent weeks they have expanded further north, in a widening of Israel’s campaign, a Lebanese security source told Reuters.

Today’s is the second Israeli airstrike on this Hezbollah stronghold since cross-border hostilities between the Israeli army and Lebanon’s Shiite movement began, which have been almost daily since the October 7 war between Israel and the Hamas in Gaza.

On February 26, the first Israeli raid took place in Baalbek, which is about 100 kilometers from the border and is close to Syria. This caused the death of two people in the ranks of Hezbollah.

The Shiite movement says it will not stop its attacks on Israel unless there is a ceasefire in Gauze.

However, according to protothema, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallad recently warned that a possible cease-fire in Gaza would have no effect on Israel’s “goal” of removing Hezbollah from its northern border, by force or diplomacy.

Since cross-border hostilities began on October 8, at least 317 people, mostly Hezbollah fighters, and 54 civilians have been killed in Lebanon, according to an AFP count. In Israel, 10 soldiers and 7 civilians have been killed.

On both sides of the border, the incessant exchanges of fire have also caused the displacement of tens of thousands of people.
