High Blood Caffeine Reduces Risk of Diabetes and Obesity – Knife

Swedish scientists conducted a genetic analysis of 10,000 people and found that caffeine consumption can actually prevent metabolic diseases. High levels of the stimulant in the blood reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and obesity, writes EurekAlert.

The scientists analyzed two variants of the CYP1A2 and AHR genes. They are related to the rate of absorption of caffeine. Carriers of the first variant have a slower metabolism of caffeine, drink less coffee on average, but the level of caffeine in their blood is higher. they have higher levels of caffeine in the blood. Carriers of the second – absorb the substance faster, and also drink more coffee to achieve the effect. At the same time, the level of caffeine in their body is lower.

It turned out that higher amounts of caffeine in the blood, due to genetics, are associated with lower weight and fat volumes, as well as with a reduction in the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by almost half. No significant correlations were found for cardiovascular diseases.
