The body needs an amount of cholesterol to build healthy cells, but if its levels are higher than normal, it can be a cause for concern.

According to the World Health Organization, high levels of cholesterol in the blood increase the risk of heart disease and stroke and account for a third of ischemic heart diseases, which is very worrying.

And the feeling of pain in several areas of the body can indicate high cholesterol, according to the “timesofindia” website.

High cholesterol is silent but risky:

The buildup of “bad” cholesterol in the arteries may not be apparent through symptoms, nor will it be reflected in a person’s physical appearance. However, with high blood cholesterol, fatty deposits can build up in the blood vessels, making it difficult for enough blood to pass through. through the arteries and their flow.

In addition, these deposits may break off and form a blood clot, which can then lead to a heart attack or stroke.

Know your risk of atherosclerosis and peripheral arterial disease:

High cholesterol can lead to a buildup of fatty deposits, also known as plaque, in and on the walls of your arteries, which can narrow the arteries and block blood flow to the heart and other parts of the body. This process is called atherosclerosis.

Narrowing and blockage of the arteries can reduce blood flow to the lower part of the body, especially the legs, causing peripheral artery disease.

Warning signs in areas of the body:

Peripheral artery disease (PAD) can cause “painful” cramps in the thighs, calf muscles, or hips. In this condition, the legs or arms don’t receive enough blood flow.

So lowering harmful cholesterol levels is very essential, as it is one of the main causes of atherosclerosis, which in turn leads to peripheral arterial disease.

Other signs you should not ignore:

Other than painful spasms in the hips, thighs, and calf muscles, other symptoms that could indicate PAD include:

Leg numbness or weakness.

No pulse or weakness in the legs or feet.

Shiny skin of the legs.

Change in the color of the skin of the legs.

Slowed growth of toenails.

Non-healing sores on the toes, feet, or legs.

Pain when using the arms, such as cramping when writing or doing other manual tasks.

Erectile dysfunction.

Hair loss or slowed hair growth on the legs.

How do you reduce your risk of high cholesterol?

1. Avoid eating too much saturated fat or trans fat.

2. Recommend eating green vegetables and healthy fruits.

3. Consumption of cereals rich in fiber.

4. Regular exercise, walking for half an hour.

5. Quit smoking and reduce your alcohol intake.

6. Ensure that you maintain a healthy weight.
