Wednesday night’s episode of “The Masked Singer” delivered another surprising reveal as High Voltage was unmasked, exposing former U.S. Soccer star Alexi Lalas. The elimination came during “Care Bears Night,” where High Voltage, along with Crane, Picasso and Pangolin, competed for a spot in the semi-finals, according to FOX6Now.
Lalas, a celebrated figure in American soccer, is known for his career as a defender for the U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT) during the 1994 FIFA World Cup. He has since transitioned into a prominent role as a soccer analyst for FOX Sports, joining the network in January 2015. The reveal capped off a performance of Daniel Powter’s “Bad Day” and followed clues that, in retrospect, pointed directly to his athletic background.
Before his unmasking, High Voltage playfully hinted at his identity, telling the judges, “I perceive super charged…but panel, you’re still totally in the dark, so here’s something to shock you.” He then teased a clue featuring a man riding a horse, prompting speculation about cowboys, but the most telling detail was the soccer ball incorporated into his costume, as noted by E! Lalas shared with the audience that music has always been a passion alongside his athletic pursuits. “I grew up playing in garage bands,” he said. “So even as I was doing sports, music was a huge part of my life, and This represents so much more than music, by the way.”
The 55-year-old’s career extends beyond the 1994 FIFA World Cup; he was similarly a member of the 1992 U.S. Olympic Team and the 1998 U.S. FIFA World Cup squad. His versatility and recognizable presence have solidified his status as one of the most celebrated personalities in American soccer.
