Hijab ruling; Muslim organizations bandh in Karnataka today

The Karnataka High Court has ruled that the hijab is not a compulsory religious practice. The bandh was called by Shariah Emir Maulana Sageer Ahmed. Ten major Muslim organizations in Karnataka have announced their support for the bandh.

The bandh is from 6 am to 6 pm. Shariah Emir Maulana Sageer Ahmed said the bandh would be peaceful. He said there should be no demonstrations or protest rallies as part of the bandh.

Meanwhile, students boycotted classes on Wednesday in protest of the hijab ban. The students protested in Chikmagalur, Hassan and Raichur.

The Karnataka High Court has rejected a petition filed by Muslim students once morest the ban on hijab in educational institutions. The verdict was passed by a bench headed by Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi and comprising Justice Krishna S Dixit and Justice JM Khasi.
