Saturday August 20, 2022, during the 2022 European Championships in Munich, was very eventful. While open water races have been surprisingly stopped, it’s a whole different issue to which Laurent Luyat had to face. Around 8:40 p.m., France 3, there was simply no sound. All of a sudden, viewers could hear a sizzle and then nothing at all. They could still continue to follow the races but they were no longer commented on. After several seconds, to enlighten sports enthusiasts, the journalist from France Télévisions had the good idea to send a message to the antenna. He then used a sheet of A4 paper on which he wrote these words: “Sound cut, sorry”. A few seconds later, he intervened again, with another message. “A matter of a few minutes (seconds)”. Laurent Luyat therefore hoped that the technical problem would be quickly resolved.
A few minutes later, at 8:44 p.m., the sound finally returned to normal and the commentators were able to resume their activity. “So there you go, I think it’s working,” rejoiced the 55-year-old journalist at first, before apologizing following the sound problem. “Thank you to the whole technical sound team.
