The yellow-black balloon has been flying in the Attic sky since Saturday afternoon. Saturday, April 13, 2024, golden anniversary of 100 years since the establishment of the Athletic Union of Constantinople and the club duly celebrated it.
Since noon, a crowd of people had flooded the surrounding area of the OPAP Arena and shortly after 17:00 the stands of the stadium were filled for the main event, the “launching” of the balloon.
AEK: The message of Dimitris Melissanidis
Around 6:10 p.m. the OPAP Arena speakers broadcast a message from Dimitris Melissanidis, perhaps the most iconic administrative leader in the 100-year history of Dicephalos:
“Dear Unionists,
Today we celebrate the hundredth birthday of the most special team in Greece. For all of us, the most special in the whole world. We should feel blessed for that. Proud and redeemed. Because we’ve been through a lot. They were difficult years.
We hurt, but we never gave up. Through effort, through struggles and with a lot of love, we are once again giving AEK the immensity that its refugee greatness deserves. We have our home again, we are fraternized and united again. We endured, we believed, we were justified.
We are all the same before her. We all have yellow-black blood in our veins. Be her servants and bodyguards together. Love her and protect her. At 200, at 300, at her thousand years.
Long live AEK.

Then the national anthem was played by the philharmonic of the Municipality of Loutraki. A cake was brought to the place where the first group was to extinguish – symbolically – the 100 candles, to the shouts of “Almeida, Almeida” from the crowd. Followed by a video with the historical route of AEK. A few minutes later the balloon rose into the air to complete the celebration which was just the first of a series of events dedicated to the 100 years of “life” of the Union, while wishes for the Union’s birthday were given by Matias Almeida, Steven Zuber, Petros Mandalos , Thomas Mavros and the sports director Bruno Alves.
Earlier, people had celebrated around the “Agia Sophia” together with the PAE AEK family, first team footballers, actors, veterans.
“One hundred years of glory. A hundred years of fighting. One hundred years of honoring the Asylum.
AEK is eternal. AEK is celebrating. AEK is living its greatest days and laying solid foundations for its second century.
