Hollman Morris Controversy: RTVC Manager’s Scandal and Trip to Davos with President Petro

Hollman Morris, deputy manager of RTVC, traveled with President Gustavo Petro to Davos (Switzerland) to the World Economic Forum that will take place in the coming days in that city.

The fact draws attention because it is questioned what role Morris will play on that trip and whether it is among his duties.

But, also, because today he is involved in a scandal after the director of Signal Colombia, Silvana Orlandelli, denounced him for alleged workplace harassment. A complaint in the same sense was made known by Lina Moreno, director of the Institutional Channel.

This week, Morris was summoned by the ICT Minister, Mauricio Lizcano, along with the RTVC manager Nórida Rodríguez, to talk about the issue. Likewise, groups of women announced protests in front of the public media facilities due to those cases of alleged workplace harassment that would be carried out by Morris.

The journalist was accused by Orlandelli of allegedly violating her rights as a worker. She argues that “the panorama at the work level became hostile, aggressive, offensive and with permanent abuses and lack of respect against dignity and rights.”

In that letter she mentions that the RTVC manager does not have a communication channel with her and that her concepts and those of her team are not taken into account. “Some of these in terms that are far from empathetic and assertive communication that should be present in any dialogue as part of a work team,” she claimed.

This complaint led other women to bring other testimonies against the journalist to light. For example, Lina Moreno, director of Canal Institucional, which is part of the same medium, joined these complaints.

Likewise, journalist Vanessa de la Torre from Caracol Radio revealed the complaints of Carolina Valencia, who was Morris’ former secretary when he was a councilor of Bogotá. She said Morris allegedly treated her poorly and even asked him to clean her office. Furthermore, she did not know how to differentiate work issues from personal ones.

For his part, he has defended himself by saying that these were supposedly orchestrated attacks against him to affect his good name. And he even said that they were retaliation for his position against the elevated subway when he was a councilor of Bogotá.

In any case, it is striking that Morris is in that delegation when there was already a journalist from that medium on board and when he is facing these scandals that have him on the ropes.

Different sectors of feminism in Colombia have criticized the former councilor, even from the left itself. One of them was the sociologist Sara Tufano, who questioned: “Why this need to surround oneself with such disastrous people?” And she said, “Tell me who you’re with and I’ll tell you who you are.”

Likewise, the sociologist criticized the silence of the Ministry of Equality in this case.
