The International Women’s Film Festival in Salé in the Kingdom of Morocco honored the Egyptian actress Laila Elwi at the opening of its fifteenth session on Monday evening. It also honored the French director of Moroccan origin Simone Bitton and the name of the late French director Sarah Maldoror.
After the official words of the festival organizers and the presentation of the jury in the cultural and cinematic space “Hollywood” in Karima, Yusra Shahwad, a professor at the Institute of Music and Choreographic Art, presented an artistic segment on the machine of law.
The festival program includes a competition for feature films that includes ten films, and a competition for documentaries that includes five films, while five Moroccan feature films and six Moroccan short films are competing for the (Youth Audience Award).
The festival will hold two training workshops on (Picture Education) and (Cinematic Writing), as well as presenting a number of books related to women and cinema, including (Life in Black and White) by the writer and poet Aisha Amour, and (A fragment of a cinematic memory) by writer and director Saad Al-Sharaibi.
The cinema of Senegal will be the “guest of honor” for this session, as the festival will screen the film (Atlantic) by director Matti Diop, winner of the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019, in addition to three other films produced in 2013, 2014 and 2019.
The performances and activities of the festival, organized by the Bouregreg Association in cooperation with the Moroccan Film Center and the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, extend until October 1.
