Waiting does nothing more than let time pass.

Many times what we learned as children marks our destiny; We repeat patterns and end up in undesirable situations, without questioning how we got there. Today I share a personal reflection that I believe can be relevant at the national level, using a simple example from my childhood.

In primary school, when we began to write, the teachers forbade us all to use pens. It was recommended to use a pencil to correct any errors. I didn’t like this. It seemed useful to me to leave my mistake on the sheet and correct it at the same time. It made sense to be able to later see what I had learned. A couple of years later I reached the stage where they finally allowed the use of pens. Here there was a little more confidence in the student; However, there were still a couple of rules that could not be questioned. One of those rules was to always write with the same color pen.

For years I always wrote with black ink. One day, not having my pencil case with me, I asked a friend from abroad to borrow a pen. She kindly gave me a green pen. When I started writing I felt uncomfortable. All the other pages of my notebook were written in black ink. Is it too late to start doing things differently? I asked myself. The experience of writing with a different color was interesting because, by doing so, my mentality changed. That day I wrote with a more open consciousness. Open to other possibilities.

Making a color change in the absence of black ink became a life motto: writing in green, in the color of hope. Hope is a beautiful word that is heard frequently; However, we hear very little talk about hope as a verb that requires action. Stop waiting for things to happen and bring them to the present—write the narrative we want to live and make the necessary changes so that the story we write is ultimately different.

What do they say? Do you plan to write what’s next with a new mentality?

This reflection brings me to my main point: the time has come to stop, as a country, writing with black ink. It is time for us to objectively look at the story we have written so far. In front of us there are many blank pages and we cannot continue looking for pens of the same color to continue the plot. Using the ink analogy, I want to say that you have to leave bad habits behind; stop giving too much opinion, questioning little and talking about hope without living in hope. Waiting does nothing more than let time pass. Apathy leaves what could have been up to the imagination.

The prosperous, abundant and beautiful future that we wish for our country requires active citizens and participants in the construction of the New Narrative. If we want a change in the result we must change the variables of the equation. We’ve tried enough things to know that it doesn’t work. It is time that, based on everything we have learned to date, we make decisions with the intention of obtaining a different result.

Today we can decide to change the ink and put an end to the history of a corrupt, dirty, chaotic and unjust country. That story was written with an ink (mentality) that is no longer useful to us. We can use the pages that follow to write differently what is coming. We can write a story with a different plot in green; a prosperous, safe, clean and abundant reality for all.

What do they say? Do you plan to write what’s next with a new mentality?
