Horner and the ‘porpoising’: “If I were the head of Mercedes, I would also tell them to complain”

The Briton believes that the images of Hamilton today are a message to the FIA

He knows that it is painful, but the changes would harm those who have done everything well

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner believes Mercedes has started a campaign to complain about physical health porpoising after races. The British manager maintains that this is part of the game and stresses that it would not be fair to make changes to the regulations, since it would harm the teams that have done their job well.

Horner reckons that if he were crew chief of Mercedes, would also have asked his two drivers not to stop complaining to put pressure on the FIA. The picture of the day was Lewis Hamilton’s having trouble getting out of the car after severe back pain, something that Christian himself understands, although he believes that his rivals have taken the easy way out.

If I were their team leader I would tell them to complain as much as possible on the radio to make it a big deal, it’s part of the game. We know that it is uncomfortable, but there are remedies to put an end to it, even if it affects the performance of the car. The easiest thing to do, we already know, is to complain for security reasons, each team has a choice,” said Horner in words published by the GPFans web portal.

In the event that it was a unanimous security issue, Horner would have no problem meeting with all the teams. to discuss possible rule changes. However, with porpoising this is not the case and remember that there are ways to get rid of it, such as lifting the car, even if it is not the best from a performance point of view.

“If it were a security problem that affects the entire grid, it would be something that we should all analyze together. Of course, it is only affecting certain drivers or teams, that is an issue that each one must deal with. The easiest thing is to lift the car, everyone has the option to do it,” he explained.

Finally, Horner believes that if there are changes in the regulations for safety reasons, the teams that have done a good job in this regard would be harmed and those that have failed would be benefited. For this reason, he believes that the fairest thing is to leave everything as it is, at least during this season and for Mercedes to look for other alternatives.

“You can also put a bigger floor as long as they want, but I think that’s a problem for the technicians. There are certain cars that have some problems and others very few, but it would seem unfair to penalize those who have done a good job to end the rebound to help those who may have failed in that objective”, Horner has acknowledged to conclude.
