Astragalus: the plant that works miracles for those who are cold

It is the queen of plants for acclimatizing to the cold: according to traditional Chinese medicine, it stimulates surface energy circulation, that is to say it acts on the skin’s ability to adapt to outside temperatures. To be taken long-term (1 to 3 capsules per day or as an infusion 1 teaspoon per cup, 2 to 3 times per day) for lasting resistance to cold (allow 2-3 weeks to notice an improvement). In case of significant chilliness, rub – preferably in the morning – the adrenal glands (located just above the kidneys), the body’s boilers, with a drop of black spruce essential oil. Good to know: always being cold can be caused by a calorie deficit (you don’t eat enough) or a nutrient deficiency (iodine, selenium) which can disrupt the functioning of the thyroid. Check with your doctor. Contraindications: pregnancy, breastfeeding, immunosuppressive and anticoagulant treatments.

Eggnog, a comforting drink following a cool walk

The ultimate winter drink, it gives you a quick boost of heat thanks to its energy coming 50% from sugars. Cinnamon also contains a compound that increases the level of two proteins involved in thermogenesis, the process of producing heat to warm the body*. The recipe: bring to the fire, without boiling, 10 to 15 cl of milk (animal or vegetable) with 2 pinches of cinnamon powder; beat 1 egg yolk with 25 g of sugar for 4-5 min, then pour the hot milk over this preparation, stirring with a whisk. Metabolism.
