The head of the US House of Representatives Intelligence Committee said in a statement, on Wednesday, that the committee made it possible for all members of Congress to obtain information about a “serious threat to national security,” which he did not specify.
Representative Mike Turner, a Republican from Ohio, added in the statement, “I call on President (Joe) Biden to declassify all information related to this threat, so that Congress, the administration, and our allies can publicly discuss the actions needed to respond to this threat.”
Multiple informed sources described this intelligence information as “extremely sensitive,” according to the report CNN.
Earlier Wednesday, Turner sent his colleagues in Congress a message saying that the urgent matter “relates to a destabilizing foreign military capability,” according to the network.
CNN quoted an informed source as saying that the matter is related to “a very worrying and destabilizing Russian capability, which we recently learned about.”
In response to a question about Turner’s statement, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan told reporters that he did not want to go into details about the nature of the threat.
“I am not in a position to say anything else from this podium at this time,” he said.
But he explained that he had contacted senior members of both chambers, from both major parties, earlier this week to provide a briefing. According to CBS.
Sullivan said he can confidently say that the Biden administration “protects the national security of the United States and the American people.”
