A gunman indiscriminately opened fire on passing vehicles in northeast Houston, striking a mother and her daughter alongside a third motorist before being shot multiple times by responding law enforcement officers, according to the Houston Police Department.
Chaos Erupts Along Wayside Drive in Northeast Houston
Authorities stated that the suspect stood directly in a roadway median and fired multiple rounds at random vehicles driving in both directions along Wayside Drive. Witnesses on the ground described a scene of absolute recklessness, noting that the shooter showed total disregard for the lives of motorists and children traveling in the area.
Among the targeted vehicles was a car carrying a mother and her young daughter. Quick-thinking bystanders, including a witness identified only as David, attempted to wave oncoming traffic away from the line of fire before police arrived.
Law Enforcement Response and Neutralization of the Suspect
Officers from the Houston Police Department rushed to the scene following emergency calls reporting an active shooter. Upon arrival, officers confronted the armed suspect in the median and issued explicit commands for him to drop his weapon.
When the suspect failed to comply, three Houston police officers and a trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety discharged their firearms, striking the gunman multiple times.
