A mother, whose nail had an anomaly, was summoned by her beautician to go and be examined by a doctor. A visit that probably saved his life.

Her manicure didn’t go as planned, but going to the salon probably saved her life. As reported by the Mirror, a mother, whose nail was marked by a stain, was summoned by the beautician to go and be examined by a dermatologist. She refused to take care of him. “I was very confused, it was mind-boggling“, she remembered while specifying to have followed his advice in spite of everything.

The 30-year-old, named Stacey Boss, said she never cared about it and thought it was just a bruise. “It was like a streak, it was like someone had marked my nail with a permanent marker from the cuticle upwards,” she explained.

But when she went to her dermatologist, she was left speechless when the diagnosis was announced. She actually had subungual melanoma, a rare type of skin cancer that develops under the fingernails. But fortunately, more fear than harm. The mother of the family was able to have part of her nail and bone removed on March 27. Now more tests need to be done to find out if the cancer has spread to other parts of the body.

“I had noticed it for a long time”

Following this trauma, she now wants to make everyone aware of checking their nails as often as possible in order to detect any anomalies. “I had noticed it for a long time and just ignored it. The beautician may have saved my life, she is well trained and was very aware, more so than me”, she confided while specifying that she always knew, deep down, that something was wrong.

As a reminder, the symptoms of subungual melanoma include ridges on the nails, color changes or a bruise under the nail that does not heal.
