They actually came from the gay scene: the dark room. The dark, winding rooms of clubs and saunas are places where gay and bisexual men seek sex with other men. It’s about excitement, anonymity, publicity. Darkrooms have long existed only within the gay scene, but in recent years other sexual orientations have also found venues for non-binding and anonymous sex.
