After the harsh criticism made by Esteban “Pelado” Trebucq towards the social leader Juan Grabois following the Christmas Eve solidarity dinner that was organized in Plaza Congreso, Buenos Aires senator Federico Fagioli came out in defense of his colleague from Patria Grande on social networks and accused the journalist defending Javier Milei’s government of being “a miserable person.”

Trebucq said he was against people receiving a plate of food: “Instead of giving them the tools to get ahead, they give them sweet bread.” “Stop giving sweet bread,” he demanded and proposed giving them “shovel, not candy.” In response, Fagioli detailed: “We do not do charity, organizations work—and hard—to transform reality every day. We promote the National Law for Homeless People so that there are comprehensive centers with training in trades, educational spaces, therapeutic support, etc.”
In addition, he commented that the MTE and other social organizations this year carried out the first national survey of homeless people (ReNaCalle) “to be able to continue working on the problem. In CABA alone, at least 8 thousand people were surveyed. There is no doubt that with Milei’s economic measures this will get worse,” the senator published. He also highlighted two graphs showing that more than half of people experiencing homelessness currently have jobs.
“Since you are worried about them having a job: according to ReNaCalle, More than half of the homeless people work, but it is not enough for them. Many are workers in the Popular Economy,” said Fagioli. The graph shows that 64.1% of people answered that they did work in the last week and, of the 31.7% who answered negatively, 42.8% reported that they are looking for work, but cannot find it. “Where the market or the State are not, there are popular movements. And on top of that, they later call them planeros, lazy people, and who knows how many other stigmas,” the senator protested.
In his editorial this Tuesday morning in The Observer FM 107.9, Trebucq asked himself: “Where does the money come from to feed all those people?” Fagioli responded: “Regarding financing, since it matters so much to you: Donations have been requested for months to be able to carry out Christmas in Congress. Rest assured that nothing came out of your pocket.“, he noted and pointed out that the Christmas Eve dinner “has been done since 2016.”
“Now do you remember to bardear? Did they ask you or did your heart harden over the years?”, questioned the CTEP/UTEP representative and concluded with a summary of his position: “If you are against those who have less being able to eat: you are miserable”. For his part, Juan Grabois did not refer to the criticism and, instead, called for participation in the mobilizations this Wednesday against Javier Milei’s DNU.
Fagioli is 32 years old, was born in Quilmes and is a member of the Frente de Todos, president of the Popular Left Party and reference for movements of workers of the popular economy and Patria Grande. He was a national deputy, he was part of the Argentine delegation sent by the National Congress to Colombia to denounce human rights violations, he participated in the camp in Lago Escondido and, when he was sworn in as senator, he did so because “In Argentina there is not a single kid without food, for the humble of the Homeland and the Great Homeland”.
