More than 500 performances will be programmed in 13 different rooms

The City of Buenos Aires will become, from April 17 to 28, the main stage of BAFICI 2024, the most relevant independent film festival in the region. For twelve days, this cinematographic event, organized by the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires, will offer more than 500 performances throughout 13 rooms, in a celebration that marks the 25th anniversary of the festival.

This year’s edition stands out for its diverse programming, with films ranging from dramas and comedies to documentaries and experimental proposals. In addition, BAFICI will provide a platform for world premieres and will feature the participation of both local and international filmmakers, who will have the opportunity to interact with the public in various parallel activities. The San Martín Theater will be the heart of the festival, serving as the main meeting point and venue for significant events, including master classes and a coworking space for accredited attendees.

The collaboration between the public and private sectors has allowed us to extend the reach of the festival, programming screenings in complexes such as Cinépolis de Plaza Houssay and Cine Arte Cacodelphia, in order to bring independent cinema closer to a wider audience. Among the featured films of this edition are The Passion by Lorenzo Ferro and Lucas A. Vignale, The Joy by Tomás Pernich and The Eye of the Monster by María Luján Ascúe.

Films of various genres decorate the 25th anniversary of BAFICI

The opening film, School Privada Alfonsina Storni by Lucía Seles, and the closing film, Fuck You! José Luis García’s last show promises to be highlights of the festival. There will also be three competitive sections: International Competition, Argentine Competition and Avant-garde and Genre Competition, where short and feature films will compete for prestigious awards that reflect the quality and diversity of global independent cinema. The BAFICI has also programmed special nights dedicated to emblematic films and has organized a section called BAFICITO, designed especially for children.
