How the Audi A6 e-tron wants to atomize the Tesla Model S

Electrification continues at high speed among premium manufacturers: the Audi A6 e-tron Sportback will be one of the novelties of 2024. This electric road car will directly compete with the Tesla Model S, and will also be challenged by the mercedes eqe as well as the future BMW i5. You have understood: this category will become a real powder keg by next year!

A revisited style for the electric Audi A6 e-tron

As for the BMW i5, the new electric Audi A6 e-tron will also be available as an Avant station wagon. The concept car presented in these photos should be very close to the production version. The optical blocks are refined to the maximum, with projectors placed in the side scoops. We also notice a closed Singleframe grille, but still designed with a shiny black outline and not chrome.

The standard version will be equipped with traditional rear-view mirrors, but rear-view cameras will also be offered as an option. We also notice on the prototype below, that contrary to the concept, the production version will be well equipped with recessed door handles.

The Audi A6 e-tron Sportback in the testing phase

The size of this large electric road car is imposing, since it measures 4.96 m wide, by 1.96 m wide and 1.44 m high. Dimensions close to the current A7 Sportback!

And as Audi will now reserve the even numbers for these electric models, there will therefore be no A7 e-tron Sportbackā€¦

Another strong point of the new A6 e-tron Sportback: a very low coefficient of air resistance, around 0.22 only. This will reduce consumption, and will benefit the announced autonomy.

An unprecedented platform shared with Porsche

This sedan will be the first Audi to offer the services of the new PPE (Premium Plattform Electric) electric platform. This will be perfect for placing large battery packs between the two axles, the sinews of war to announce record autonomy. Incidentally, the PPE platform will also be used by Porsche for the new electric Macan, and later at Audi again for the Q6 e-tron.

Several engines will be available, with an entry-level propulsion version with an electric motor placed at the rear. An all-wheel drive version will also have a second engine, this time placed at the front, for a cumulative power of 476 hp and a torque of 800 Nm. Enough to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 4 s, against 7 s for the basic version. But that’s not all: an RS version is planned, it is essential to tease an EQE 53 AMG. And to compete with the Tesla Model S Plaid will you tell me? It is hoped that Audi is actively working on the subject.

With 800V batteries and in particular with a 100 kWh pack, the energy will be there!

Launch scheduled for late 2023, early 2024.
