Vienna – With his strategically designed tough asylum course, including effective self-PR – “I have closed the Balkan route” – the former Chancellor and ÖVP boss Sebastian Kurz had seized the blue favorite topic and hollowed out the FPÖ. But since Kurz’s forced departure in the course of the chat affair, not only have the polls dropped dramatically, but the ÖVP’s competence in matters of asylum has also gradually gotten serious scratches. The ATV broadcaster has now published a Hajek survey, according to which only one in ten respondents credits the Chancellor’s party with competence in matters of migration.
