Xi Jinping visited Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, from December 12th to 13th. He was accompanied by his wife, Peng Liyuan, as a state guest, as well as Cai Qi, the fifth-ranking member of the Politburo, and Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Communist Party’s Central Foreign Affairs Work Committee and minister of foreign affairs.

However, its purpose is not clear. It’s not a phrase from a TV show, but it’s something like, “Why did you go to Vietnam?”

Why did you visit Vietnam at this time?

The ostensible purpose was to meet with Vietnam’s supreme leader, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, and to emphasize that the two countries share a “common destiny.” But what is the point of emphasizing such things? As you can see from the Sino-Vietnam War in 1979, China and Vietnam are not on good terms. In their hearts, neither of them think that they share a common destiny. It’s just empty.
