World exhibition – that was the attempt to document the progress of mankind in an overall view. An undertaking that was initially reserved for metropolises such as London (1851 and 1862) and Paris (1855 and 1867). Vienna wanted to go one step further and from May 1st to November 1st 1873 realize the largest world exhibition to date.
