Youtube videos appear at a breakneck pace, covering the most diverse subjects. And you may not have the time to watch most of the ones that might interest you. Obtaining the transcription and being able to read it during a break is therefore a practical solution. There are four types of solution in this area.
Retrieve Youtube Transcription
Take any video on Youtube and open its description. At the bottom of it (or just below on a mobile phone), you will see the mention Show description. This then appears on the screen and follows the scrolling of the video. On computer, click on the three dots to turn off the timestamp. You can select this entire transcription to copy it into a document.
This transcription corresponds to the subtitles of the video and usually, it is generated automatically by Youtube, and therefore with various interpretation errors. Essential problem: it does not include sentences ending with periods but the complete text, without punctuation. This text is therefore not easy to read in the majority of cases.

Use a transcription service
The third solution takes a little longer to implement but the result is of good quality. It involves using a dedicated transcription service. Problem: many of these services, like veed.io or notta.ai, require you to load the video before performing such a transcription. It is very impractical even if there are various tools to this. The service happyscribe is more direct: you indicate the link to a Youtube video and it takes care of retrieving it. Such applications are usually paid but you can benefit from the free trial to test their capabilities.
Click on Create Then Transcript. On the left, select Link (Youtube), indicate the video link then click on Import. In the right panel, choose the language of the video, probably French, then the Standard option. Finally click on Create. You usually have to wait a few minutes before the operation is performed. In the end, you get the first 10 minutes of the video converted into sentences and can get the rest by clicking Finish Transcription.
Usually, as in the solutions discussed above, these transcription systems primarily have difficulty enunciating brand names. If your transcription needs are very high, you will obtain transcription without time limit and with better quality by purchasing a subscription – the minimum price being 17 dollars per month.
Whisper de OpenAI
The Whisper tool from OpenAI (the creator of ChatGPT) is a high-quality transcription tool, probably the best of its kind. However, its use requires mastery of Python programming.
