Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesman for the Ministry of Health, said that the Ministry is following up on reports received regarding increasing rates of bed bug spread in some countries.

He continued: “Bed bugs are small wingless insects that hide in the cracks and folds of mattresses and in other things such as bed frames, pillow fillings and walls.”

The spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population added that bedbug blood may appear on bed covers or behind wallpaper, and in other areas, and this insect also hides in some buildings, such as mud houses and roofs covered with thatch.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar explained that bedbugs are not known to transmit infections to humans, and signs of a bedbug bite appear on the skin sometimes within a period ranging from a few hours to 10 days, following exposure to the bite.
