2023-05-03 10:00:00

O Spotlight is already an old acquaintance of Mac users. Through it, you can carry out searches, make conversions and several other actions without necessarily having to open other applications.

Despite being continually being improved, things do not always work as they should. Therefore, if you are facing problems in searches without expected results, it is possible reindex (rebuild) Spotlight to make it better.

See how to proceed! ????‍????

How to reindex Spotlight on Macs running macOS Ventura or later

Open System Settings, click on “Siri & Spotlight” and at the bottom of the screen select “Spotlight Privacy…”. Then, drag the folder you want to index again to the central area or, if you prefer, click on the “+”, select it and go to “Choose”.

In the same list of locations, choose the newly added disk/folder and click the “-” to remove it from the list. Click “OK” and close System Settings. Depending on the number of files, this indexing process may take a while.

How to reindex Spotlight on Macs prior to macOS Ventura

The process of doing this on Macs running versions prior to macOS Ventura 13 follows the same idea. Open System Preferences and click on “Spotlight”. Then, go to the “Privacy” tab and choose the folder you want to index (using one of the same methods described above).

Finally, follow the same steps to delete it and close System Preferences.

Bonus: Use CleanMyMac X!

There is also another way to do this process — through the software CleanMyMac X. After downloading it to your computer, click on the “Maintenance” tab on the left side, check “Reindex Spotlight” and go to “Run”.

CleanMyMac X is compatible with macOS 10.13 or later and is available for testing through its official website or the Mac App Store (an incomplete version) with a subscription to R$154,10/something (license for one Mac) or a one-time purchase for R$462,83.
